Mountain West PreviewWeek 7
Air Force- The Falcons gave TCU a run for their money but fell short 20-17 in their quest to knock TCU from the realms of the unbeaten. Air Force’s offense was anemic throwing for only 58 yards in the game and did little on the ground in frigid conditions. The loss drops the Falcons to 3-3. Their next opponent is 4-2 Wyoming on October 17th. The key for Air Force will be to slow down freshmen QB Austyn Carta-Samuels. Although they sit at 3-3, Air Force has lost two straight games by field goals to quality foes in Navy and TCU. Prediction: Air Force 23 Wyoming 20 BYU- The Cougars made Sin City their home as they annihilated the Running Rebels 59-21 on their home turf. Max Hall turned in what is a typical day for him as he threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns. RB Harvey Unga ran for 150 yards and three scores. The Cougars travel to 2-3 San Diego State on October 17th. The Aztecs do not have the offense to keep up with the Cougars. Prediction BYU 51 SDSU 24 Colorado State- The Rams traveled to Utah and came away with a difficult 24-17 loss. The Rams held a 17-14 lead after 3 quarters but could not hold on as Utah scored a late touchdown to get the victory in a very cold Hughes Stadium. The Rams travel to #12 TCU on October 17th. The Rams offense will not be enough to overcome one of the best defenses in the land. Predicton TCU 31 Colorado State 17 New Mexico- The Lobos, still looking for their 1st win, were no match for Wyoming in Laramie losing 37-13. The Lobos will lick their wounds on as they have a bye week before returning to action against UNLV on October 24th. San Diego State- The Aztecs return from their bye week to face a very tough test in BYU. In BYU, they will face a tremendous offense spearheaded by QB Max Hall. The Aztecs will put up some points but cannot keep pace with the explosive Cougar offense. Prediction BYU 51 SDSU 24 TCU- The #12 Horned Frogs had a scare in their battle against the Falcons of Air Force. TCU’s defense was yet again the difference as they held the Falcons to 17 points. The Horned Frogs host Colorado State on October 17th. TCU’s defense will be too much for the Rams to handle. Prediction TCU 31 Colorado State 17 UNLV- The Rebels were throttled for the 2nd consecutive week as BYU lit up the scoreboard winning 59-21. UNLV’s road will not get any easier as they host Utah on October 17th. Prediction Utah 49 UNLV 27 Utah- The Utes escaped Fort Collins with a 24-17 victory. On a frozen field, Utah trailed late in the game finally grabbing the lead with 3:40 left in the contest. QB Terrance Cain threw for 248 yards and two TDS in the victory. Utah faces an undermanned UNLV squad in Las Vegas on October 17th. Prediction Utah 49 UNLV 27 Wyoming- The Cowboys dominated winless New Mexico 37-13. Freshmen QB Carta-Samuels threw for 232 yards and three TD’s in the victory. The win moves Wyoming to 4-2. The road gets tougher for the Cowboys as they travel to Air Force on October 17th. The Falcons are only 3-3 but have lost two consecutive games by a field goal to a solid Navy team and a very good TCU team. Prediction Air Force 23 Wyoming 20
