New Mexico Lobos vs Colorado State Rams Basketball Recap

New Mexico 68 Colorado State 61

In a contest which was interrupted for nearly 40 minutes after an individual set off a fire alarm, the New Mexico Lobos were finally able to dispatch the Colorado State Rams at The Pit in Albuquerque New Mexico on Wednesday evening.  The stoppage of play didn't prevent Lobo Philip McDonald from pouring in a career-high 27 points to pace head coach Steve Alford's club to its first Mountain West Conference victory of the season.

The Rams were led by Dorian Green, who scored 20 points in an attempt to stop a seven game skid for Colorado State in New Mexico.  Colorado State simply wasn't able to contain the Lobos on the glass to score the victory.  Head coach Tim Miles's Rams were balanced in scoring, with 8 individuals getting into the points column of the stat sheet.

The ballgame was hard fought as neither team could break away.  The nail-in-the-coffin for the Rams came after McDonald drained a 3-pointer with 47 seconds remaining to put the matchup out of reach.  The Lobos were also aided by emerging talent Drew Gooden, who had a double-double, scoring 15 points and adding 16 rebounds.
