Mountain West expands to eleven with additions of Fresno State and Nevada

Bulldogs and Wolf Pack will re-join former WAC foe Boise State

MWC & Utah ApparelIt appeared as though the dust was starting to settle on the conference realignment front.

However, the Mountain West had other plans.

The league, which has been in existence since 1999, grew to ten on June 11th when it brought Boise State into the fold.

Then, less than a week later, Utah decided to join Colorado as the newest members of the Pac-10--which will be changing its name to the Pac-12 to reflect those additions.

Following the Utes departure, conference commissioner Craig Thompson stated that the Mountain West would likely be content to be a nine-member league in 2011.

That stance was re-considered and the league extended invitations to WAC members Fresno State and Nevada.

Those two institutions wasted no time in accepting their invites.

Now, will the league add a 12th member? Could UTEP or Houston from Conference USA be on the MWC's radar?

Then again, the MWC may be seeking to add two if BYU opts to leave the league to become an independent in football.
