TCU vs Baylor - NCAA Regional Championship Baseball Recap

TCU 9, Baylor 0 - TCU advances to super regionals

Every baseball team - when one win away from winning a postseason event - needs a pitcher who can toe the rubber and slam the door shut on the opposition.

The TCU Horned Frogs had that man on the mound Sunday evening, and that's why they're headed to the NCAA Super Regionals next weekend.

TCU starter Steven Maxwell overpowered the Baylor Bears' bats in an eight-inning masterpiece. As a result, a TCU team which entered the night in a commanding position managed to put its favored status to good use. The Horned Frogs didn't want a Monday rematch with Baylor at the Fort Worth Regional, and thanks to Maxwell, they won't get one.

Maxwell gave away nothing to the Bears in this matchup of former Southwest Conference rivals. TCU's main man on the mound faced just one batter more than the minimum while scattering just three hits and striking out 10. Maxwell's peerless performance meant that the Frogs had to scratch out just a little bit of offense. Run-scoring triples by Taylor Featherston and Jason Coats more than did the trick. Maxwell (11-1) picked up the win for a team that looks very strong heading into the second weekend of the NCAA baseball tournament.

Craig Fritsch (5-4) took the loss for Baylor. The Bears' starter was decent, but he couldn't keep up with Maxwell. Fritsch gave up four runs in 6 2/3 innings.
