Horns hammer Horned Frogs, 14-1, to even series

In-state rivals to play game three on Sunday

Needing a win to keep its season alive, No. 2 Texas received 8.1 strong innings from Taylor Jungmann and pounded TCU pitching to post the necessary victory in a 14-1 blowout on Saturday.

The Longhorns (50-12) lost the opener 3-1 on Friday, but started quick and never looked back in this one.

After two scoreless innings, Texas took a 4-0 advantage in the top of the third. The Longhorns logged just one hit in the frame, but it was a two-run double by Kevin Lusson. The Horns first two runs came on a pair of walks, a hit batter and a throwing error.

The Longhorns’ lead grew to 5-0 in the fourth when Brandon Loy drew a two-out walk and Tant Shepherd delivered a single to right off the newly inserted Trent Appleby.

Texas tagged Appleby for seven runs in the fifth to blow the game open at 12-0. Kevin Keyes doubled home the first run of the inning. Cohl Walla tripled to plate three more before Tant Shepherd’s two-run blast provided the final two runs of the frame.

The Horned Frogs (50-12) avoided the shutout in the eighth. Taylor Featherston singled to plate Kyle Von Tungeln, who reached with a two-out triple.
